My Background

Dear Activities Director,

How would you like an activity for your seniors that uses current events to engage your residents in discussions and to stimulate their thinking?  If you are like most Activities Directors, you don’t have the time or energy to put together any type of current events activity for your seniors, but you know it’s important for your residents to keep up with news.

I’ve got the solution to your problem.  Know Your Current Events for Retirement Communities motivates seniors to learn current events and to talk about what’s happening in the country.  And, the program takes minimal preparation on your part.

Listen to what some subscribers are saying about Know Your Current Events:

“By the way, I truly hope you continue to do this next year!  My residents that participate in this activity LOVE IT!”  S.S., Brenden Gardens, Springfield, Illinois.

“Thank you so much, our residents absolutely love your questions.”  T.S., Westminster Place, Evanston, Illinois      .

“Our seniors are enjoying these editions.  Sometimes during lunchtime, after I give the announcements, I read some of the questions and the person who can answer the question gets a candy bar.  We have fun doing that.  In addition, the seniors are reading the newspapers more often now so they can win a candy bar.”  K.H., Golden Years Senior Center, Bountiful, Utah.

“We appreciate your current events so much!”  J.M., The Terrace at Memorial City Retirement Community, Houston, Texas.

Know Your Current Events is a social and thinking activity that I will email to you on the 15th and 30th of each month.  All the current events questions are from news stories within the last two weeks.  These are well-designed questions that can be answered with just one or two words.  The questions cover a wide spectrum of topics – personalities, music, television, sports, business, politics, and history -- appealing to a broad range of interests and levels of knowledge from your seniors.   Even seniors with minimal knowledge will feel confident and successful in learning about what’s happening in the news.

Again, there’s very little preparation on your part.  All the questions, answers, and suggestions for use are provided when you get each issue.

Know Your Current Events is a social and thinking activity that will:

·        Provide a fun, interactive environment among your seniors.

·        Enhance their thinking and recall skills

·        Stimulate discussion among seniors
